The transportation department is located at 2205 Holland Street, Birmingham, MI 48009. We are located at the dead end of Holland on the east side of Eton Street on approximately 6.5 acres.

We have 240 runs on 49 buses for regular education students in grades kindergarten through 12. More than 500 non-public students are transported to 13 different facilities. We travel about 4,600 miles daily to transport approximately 5,685 students.

We have 8 special education bus routes for approximately 125 students. These students attend 14 in-district facilities, and 12 out-of-district facilities. These buses travel more than 1,300 miles daily. We are also participating in the southeast quadrant of Oakland county regional transportation program. We provide transportation for Pontiac, West Bloomfield, Bloomfield, and Berkley School District special needs students who attend the same out-of-district schools as some of Birmingham's special needs students.

With our daily mileage plus the mileage from our student field trips, athletic and band competitions, work programs for special needs students, and shuttles between schools and various other centers, we traveled about 820,000 miles in 2001-02 school year. This year we have added more shuttles between Seaholm and Groves high schools to accommodate the instructional needs of our students in smaller classes.

There are 74 bus drivers and 2 paraprofessionals who work with our students every day. We have 1 secretary and 1 office assistant, 1 dispatcher, a transportation supervisor and a dispatcher supervisor, and a manager of transportation services. Our offices are open from 5:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

There are 3 mechanics and a fleet maintenance supervisor who keep the district's 83 school buses in top shape. Our mechanics also are responsible for maintaining Clawson School District's 11 school buses. Every year our fleet is inspected by the Michigan State Police, and every year for at least the past 15 years we have had an "Excellent" rating.
